How did the family cope during two and a half years of living under shelling in a town less than 10 kilometers from the Russian border following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine? What took the longest to adapt to in their new city? Ksenia shared her experiences in an interview.

Almost 1,700 km in three days, covering nine regions, visiting four shelters, and having dozens of meetings. Our Fight For Right team traveled this route to work with experts on the ground and assess firsthand the importance of accessibility in disability shelters.

Our Fight For Right team met this elderly couple in one of the hostels in Kharkiv, where Valentyna and Anatolii had temporarily settled after being evacuated on May 12.

I met Oleksii, a resident of a shelter for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Lviv in autumn 2023. My colleague and I monitored city shelters for accessibility to people with disabilities as a part of the Fight For Right project.

Since February 24, 2022, the number of internally displaced persons in the country has more than quadrupled compared to previous years.

The women help to evacuate people with disabilities, mothers with children, the elderly, and others from various locations in Ukraine, including hotspots.
