Fight For Right participated in CSO consultations ahead of the EU-Ukraine Human Rights Dialogue
On 5 April Fight For Right participated in CSO consultations ahead of the EU-Ukraine Human Rights Dialogue
This round of CSOs consultations was dedicated to fundamental rights and non-discrimination. Fight For Right raised concerns regarding gaps in anti-discrimination legislation, lack of transparency and OPD participation in Ukraine recovery process and the need to accelerate governmental work on systemic reforms to ensure accessibility and human rights of persons with disabilities.
Fight For Right proposed a number of recommendations asking EU Delegation in Ukraine to facilitate dialogue with Ukraine upon:
- Reform Legislation on Disability Rights: Prioritize reforming legislation regarding medical and legal recognition of disabilities to align with international standards such as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF).
- Support Deinstitutionalisation with Community-Based Services: Accelerate development of community-based services and supported decision-making ensuring a clear and feasible plan for independent community living for adults with disabilities.
- Ensure Accessibility and Inclusivity in Reconstruction Efforts: Prioritise accessibility and inclusivity as key performance indicators (KPIs) in reconstruction projects and establish mechanisms to ensure compliance with accessibility standards, involving local organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) and CSOs in the evaluation process.
